Taking a road trip in Florida during the winter is an entirely different ballgame than many other parts of the country. Regardless, you still want to be prepared for any road trip and that’s why we put together this blog to help you have a fantastic time! We’ll cover car care, emergency kits, and will give you a few recommendations that should be a ton of fun. Safety first as always, but that only helps you keep the fun rolling along.

Car Care
It’s important that your car is ready for what you’re asking it to do. You wouldn’t want to take a car that’s falling apart down the street let alone on a long journey. Have it inspected by a pro, but there are definitely things you can do if you’re up to the task. Start with checking the tires to make sure they have good tread depth, are properly inflated, and that the sidewalls are in good condition. Make sure to check all of the fluids for levels as well as for color. If they are dark and/or discolored, it could mean that they don’t have what it takes to do their job right. Check all hoses and belts to make sure they aren’t fraying and that they fit well. This is a great start to a fun and safe road trip.

Emergency Kits
Being prepared shouldn’t just be a motto for the Scouts, but for all of us. When you are planning on a road trip, this a great time to bring your car kit up to date. Make sure to include current meds, bottled water, and non-perishable snack items. You’ll want a reliable set of jumper cables and batteries with extra batteries. A tool kit with screwdrivers, wrenches, and a pocket knife could come in handy. Your first aid kit should have some basic meds like Benadryl and a pain killer as well as bandages, gauze, and adhesive tape. You could create three separate kits or combine them into one.
